Bakhasar-Gujarat is directly connected
Barmer – Rajasthan . Strengthening connectivity between Bakhasar and surrounding areas in Rajasthan’s Barmer district and Gujarat, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday virtually inaugurated the strategic two-lane highway from Bakhasar to Mawasari via video conferencing. Built by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) at a cost of around Rs 325 crore, the 32.49-km-long highway is not only crucial for border security but also connects Bakhasar in Barmer directly with Gujarat after nearly four decades.

MKC INFRASTRUCTURE involved in construction: The construction work of this important highway has been completed with high quality by Gujarat based company MKC INFRASTRUCTURE LIMITED, a
fast growing company in the infrastructure sector .

MKC INFRASTRUCTURE LIMITED is currently one of the leading companies in the country’s rapidly growing infrastructure sector. The company is actively pursuing major expressway, highway, and railway projects across the country. The construction of a strategic road like the Bakhasar-Mawasari Highway demonstrates the company’s growing capabilities and its involvement in the country’s major infrastructure development. Under the guidance of Nishant Bamaniya, the company’s director, the project was completed within the stipulated timeframe.

The old route was washed away after 1971
This road used to connect Bakhasar directly to Gujarat via the floodplain of Kutch during the Indo-Pak war of 1971, about 4 decades ago. However, due to the flow of the Luni River and the salty water spread in the Rann of Kutch, this road was gradually washed away and by the 1990s the route was completely closed. The proposal for this
33 KM road, built at a cost of Rs 325 crore,
was sent by BRO to the Ministry of Defence in the year 2021, which was approved in February 2022.
Road Features: This 32.49-kilometer-long highway is a 7-meter-wide two-lane highway. Approximately 170 crore rupees have been spent on the construction of 11 major and 20 minor culverts, which will ensure road safety even in flood-affected areas of the Rann of Kutch.
The inauguration ceremony was organized by the BRO in Bakhasar, in which Gujarat Government’s Minister of State Swarup Thakor, Barmer BJP District President Anantram Vishnoi, and BRO officials were present.
The journey time has been reduced from 150 kilometers to 33 kilometers.
With the opening of this highway, it has become very easy for more than 300 villages in the Chauhatan, Sedwa, Bijrad, and Dhanau Panchayat Samiti areas of Barmer district to reach Gujarat.
Earlier, people of these villages had to travel an additional distance of about 150 kilometers to go to Gujarat.
Now, this journey has been reduced to just 33 kilometers, saving commuters more than two hours of time.
BRO officials stated that this road will not only facilitate rural mobility but also provide strategic support for the Indian Army and BSF in the border region.
